Older Kingston homes and odd-sized openings
Kingston has a lot of older houses, many of them limestone, and plenty have a detached garage at the back of the lot. Those garages were often built before door sizes were standard. An opening that’s a few inches narrower or shorter than a stock door means ordering a door made to that size. We measure the opening ourselves, then quote a door built to fit it. Custom sizes take longer to arrive than stock doors, and you’ll get the timing with the quote.
If you want the door to suit an older house, carriage-style steel doors give you the look of wood panels without repainting wood every few years. We install them from Steel-Craft, Amarr and Hörmann. See our residential garage doors for styles.
Repairs on any door
Newer homes in Cataraqui North and the west end mostly have standard double doors with openers. The usual problems are broken springs, worn cables, doors off the track and openers that stop partway. We repair all makes, including manual doors with no opener. More on our garage door repair page.
Commercial doors
For shops, warehouses and institutional buildings we install and repair sectional overhead doors and rolling steel doors, and we can schedule maintenance so they get looked at before winter. See commercial garage doors.
How booking works
Our shop is at 4120 Ridgeway Drive in Mississauga. We don’t have a Kingston office. Call, tell us what the door is doing and where you are, whether that’s Portsmouth, Kingscourt or Westbrook, and we’ll give you a date. You get the price before any work starts.
Questions from Kingston homeowners
My garage opening isn’t a standard size. Can you still fit a door?
Yes. We measure the opening and order a door made to that size. It takes longer than a stock door, and we’ll give you the timing up front.
Can you put an opener on a detached garage?
If the garage has power and the door is balanced, yes. If there’s no outlet near the ceiling, you’ll need an electrician to add one first.
Do you repair manual garage doors?
Yes. Manual doors use the same springs, cables and rollers as doors with openers, and we repair them the same way.
