Older homes and newer ones need different repairs
A house in Old North or Wortley Village and a new build in Hyde Park don’t break the same way. A lot of older London homes have a single detached garage with a door on extension springs, and some of those doors have been up for decades. The springs stretch out, the cables wear, and parts for a very old door can be hard to match. Sometimes a replacement section or a new door costs less over time than another patch, and we’ll tell you when we think that’s the case.
Newer homes in Hyde Park and Lambeth mostly have double doors on torsion springs with an opener. Those doors usually fail at the spring or the opener. A broken torsion spring is a technician’s job, because the spring holds a lot of tension. If yours has snapped, leave the door closed and call. Our residential garage door repair page covers what a visit includes.
Replacing a garage door in London
If the door is past fixing, we’ll measure the opening and quote a new one. We install insulated steel doors, carriage-style doors, and aluminum and glass doors from Steel-Craft, Amarr and Hörmann. For openers we use LiftMaster, including models with Wi-Fi built in, so you can check whether the door is closed from your phone. See residential garage doors for styles and garage door openers for the models we install.
Commercial and industrial doors
London has a lot of industrial space along the 401 and in Innovation Park. We install and repair sectional overhead doors, rolling steel doors and dock equipment for warehouses and plants, and we can set up a maintenance schedule so doors get checked before they fail on a busy shift.
Booking a visit
Our shop is at 4120 Ridgeway Drive in Mississauga, east of London along the 401. We don’t have a London office. Call, tell us what the door is doing and which part of the city you’re in, from Byron to Masonville, and we’ll give you a time. You get the price before any work starts.
Questions from London homeowners
Can you match a panel on an older door?
Sometimes. If the manufacturer still makes that panel, we can order a replacement section. If they don’t, we’ll tell you and price a new door so you can compare.
Is it worth repairing a 20-year-old garage door?
Often, yes. A new spring or cable on an old door that’s otherwise solid costs far less than a new door. If the panels are rusted through or cracked, replacing the door usually makes more sense, and we’ll say so.
Do you fix garage door openers?
Yes. We repair openers that hum, reverse or stop partway, and we install new LiftMaster belt drive, chain drive and wall-mount openers.
